Snapshot Options can be access by clicking the expand buttonon the Tasks section of the Home menu in the Snapshots Manager:
Snapshots are simply backups of the DSF database.
The DSF database is completely separate from your actual physical database.
Snapshots are automatically taken before any new data discoveries occur or when an Administrator exits the system. (These setting can be changed by an Administrator.)
Auto Save Snapshots
Auto save options are used as a safety net or as a type of “undo” ability. Time stamped backups are created at these events.
Unless there is a good reason to off Auto Snapshots, it is recommended to leave them on. Snapshots are the insurance policy that you want in place just in case you ever need to revert to a previous discovery point.
On System Exit
Saves a copy of the current DSF database whenever the system exits (Administrators only).
Before Updates
Saves a copy of the current DSF database before and version updates are applied.
Before Discovery Changes
Saves a copy of the current DSF database before any new discovery options are executed. Actions like creating a new View are not discovery options.
Before Restore (Safety)
Saves a copy of the current DSF database before restoring one over it.
Data Retention Policy
Having a retention policy setup for the snapshots allows you to have a “set it and forget it” attitude. The system will automatically purge your snapshot backups so that your disk doesn't fill up, but will also retain copies at strategic points so that you never need to worry about accidentally deleting something you may need later.
Enable Policy
Turns on the policy. If the policy was off, any files that do not meet the policy settings will be purge at the first encountered event.

Weeks of Weekly

Purge Now button
Pressing this button will execute the purge policy immediately.
